It is a competitive world out here. One has to have some niche to succeed. Six-pack abs these days have become a common phenomenon in Bollywood, thanks to Shah Rukh Khan. But it is not taken very seriously by many heroes in Tollywood. One has to have lot of dedication, do lot of hard work and make lots of sacrifices to acquire six pack abs. I had been working over it for the past one and half years. I had completely cut rice and sweets from my menu. I ate 15 egg whites and one kg of chicken (cooked in olive oil) everyday besides lots of vegetables and fruits. In order to start working for six-pack abs, I need to shed all my fat. I worked every day for one and half hour in the morning on my upper body and one and half hour in the evening on abs and cardio. I still do 800 to 1000 abs a day.
What is the biggest sacrifice you did for 6-pack abs?
I am an ice-cream freak. I had to give up ice creams for a year. Once my shooting for Victory was completed, I binged on Biryani and ice creams. I don't have to concentrate on my food once I get a 6-pack because it would only take 30 to 45 days develop six pack next time.
Tell us about your character in Victory?
I am doing the role of a youngster who writes civil service exams and is about to face an interview. You can see me in a mature role in this film. The characterization is novel and the performance is subtle. I am doing the character of a middle class guy with lots of responsibilities.
What do you expect from your next film Victory?
I am pinning my hopes on Victory. This film deals with land mafia problems and attempts to give a solution. It is a contemporary film on a bunch of young guys like those in Rang De Basanti film. It has loads of entertainment too.
Tell us about the director Ravi C Kumar?
Ravi narrated me three scripts and I did not like them. Victory was the fourth script he narrated to me. I loved it. But I was little hesitant if I could do justice to that character. But Ravi infused confidence into me. He worked hard on moulding my character with style. Ravi is one of the most hardworking directors I had worked so far. He did his homework. The credit of this film must go to Ravi C Kumar (director), KV Krishna Reddy (editor) and Vijay C Kumar (cinematographer).
If you look back at your career, what improvements you observe?
1. Jayam: I have no prior experience when I did Jayam. The entire credit of my performance should go to Teja for extracting fine histrionics from a rookie like me.
2. Dil: I learnt about fights and action sequences in this film.
3. Sambaram: This film gave me scope to act in emotional and sentimental scenes.
4. Sri Anjaneyam: I consider my work in Sri Anjaneyam is the best so far. We worked really hard for this film.
5. Sye: This film has shown me in a stylish avatar.
6. Dhairyam: There is nothing much I learnt in this film.
7. Allari Bullodu: I had a chance to act in mass romantic songs in the direction of K Raghavendra Rao.
8. Ram: There is an improvement in dances.
9. Takkari: I got superb response for dances in Ammi song.
10. Aatadista: I improved my diction and I could do scenes spontaneously. With Aatadista, I became more flexible in my acting.
Did you want to become hero since childhood?
Karunakaran is a close friend of my father. I was in my 10th class when Toli Prema was released. During that time Karunakaran said that I could become a hero. That is when I realized that I have it in me to become an actor.
My father distributed Nuvvu Nenu for Nizam territory. I went to morning show on the release day. A guy said hello to me and introduced himself as director of that film (Teja). He asked me if I were interested in acting films and he took my phone number. Later on he came to know that I am son of distributor Sudhakar Reddy. I went to the theater on 150th day of Nuvvu Nenu. He saw me at that time and took me to his office in his car. He did the make-up test and photo shoot. Then he called my father and said that he selected hero for his next film. And when he shown the photos to father, then my father realized that his son is going to be a hero. I think it was because of fate, I had become a hero.
Your father had a fight with Teja after Dhairyam release. How is your relationship with Teja now?
Teja is my God. I am here only because of Teja. He gave a great image with Jayam. Even now, people call me as Jayam Nitin in interior villages.
Did you lose anything after becoming an actor?
I used to watch all films one first day. But I stopped watching films in public places after becoming a hero. I used to eat out with friends without being disturbed. Now I can't do it. But I became a hero and it compensates for everything I lose. I am also happy that I dropped out of college in my first year because I became a hero. I was not interested in studies anyway.
What did you realize as hero after coming to film industry?
However hard you work, you always need luck to succeed and get a hit. In Telugu film industry luck plays important role than the hard work. Hence I I am doing films that appear decent and am expecting one of these films work for me in a big way.
Another important thing I learnt is about the film industry people. Everybody is with you as long as your films are hits. Once you are on a lean patch, everybody disappears. Only 3-4 guys stuck with me even when I am in flops. I learnt a big lesson in life on whom to trust and whom not to.
What is the most memorable moment for you?
I went to Sandhya 35 for the platinum disc function of Pawan Kalyan's Badri. I was among the hundreds of fans who were cheering Pawan Kalyan. I went to the same theater during the platinum disc function of Dil film. I was on the stage and lots of fans were clapping for me. It was a memorable experience for me.
You are having bad phase after Sye film. What did you learn during this period?
I felt sad. But without going into depression, I converted it into positive energy. I worked hard and developed six pack abs. Every hero goes through lean phase. I am just waiting for a solid hit to put me back in the limelight.
You must have got flooded by female fans after you became hero. Tell us the most impressive fan and embarrassing fans?
One female fan came to be with 5 albums in which she collected my entire movie related news and advertisements that came in newspapers and magazines. I was thrilled that somebody is putting so many efforts for me.
Embarrassing moments:
1. After Jayam release, a girl came to me and kissed on my cheek and hand and went away. It was the first time a girl did something like that to me.
2. Two girls came to me during Sri Anjaneyam shoot. One girl said that the other girl is separated from her husband because she is sleeping with my photo under her pillow. Her husband got angry and they got separated. I felt bad and asked her not to do such things.
If you want to have a girl friend, how do you select?
I always wanted to have a girl friend before I joined the films. I started getting many female fans coming and proposing to me after I became a hero. But I am not sure if they like me for what I am or they like me for my celebrity status. I think God will intervene and do something about it.
Who are the heroines you are close to?
Genelia and Kajal Agarwal are my close friends among the heroines I worked with. People say that Genelia is the best girl for me on the screen.
What is there in your wardrobe?
I love wearing normal t-shirt and jeans pants. If you look at jeans pants (it has a couple of holes due to excessive usage) I am wearing now, it is 6-year old. I still have my intermediate cloths in my wardrobe. I wear fancy looking cloths to function as I am obligated to wear them to maintain star status.
What do you look at when you accept films?
I look at emotional content. I don't bother much about perfection in stories. If I find a story to be decent enough, I go ahead and do it.
What are your future projects?
I am doing a film for TV5 production. This film is being directed by Kumar (a protégé of Rajamouli). This film is titled as Drona. Priyamani is the heroine. I am also doing a film in the direction of actor GV. Bhavana is doing female lead. This film is titled as Hero. I am doing the role of a trendy youngster who wants to become a film hero.
Your movie frequency has increased recently?
Yes. I intend to do 3 films an year. This year's summer was started with my film Aatadista. And the summer is ending with my next release 'Victory' on June 14.
What’s the feedback you got for scoring music in Rainbow?
We released only two tunes to the SFM. Just three days went by. The response is mind-blowing. My mobile has no rest. This output wouldn’t have been possible but for the freedom given to me by my director VN Aditya. I think the audio will be hitting the open market in a day or two. I am confident; my tunes will be liked for their originality.
Tell us about your background in the world of music?
Since my childhood, I nursed an ambition to become a original composer. I took my MA (Music) and M.Phil from Telugu University. I was trained in the Classical and Hindustani. At first, I took up the job for a couple of TV serials, including the popular devotional skit Jai Veerhanuman on the Sony. It was followed by similar projects on the DD, ETV. I got Nandi Award as Best Music Director for the TV programme – Mahakavi Bharavi. Before that, I made my debut as a singer in the films Nee Kosam and Chitram. During this period, my contribution remained a must for almost all title songs of various TV shows and serials.
Later, I joined the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) under the Govt. of India. I was deputed as the Cultural Ambassador to the Indian Ocean island nation Mauritius during the years 2000-2004. I took up the administrative and cultural responsibilities in propagating the power of Indian music. I traveled into almost half of the globe. I discharged a passionate duty as the messenger of Indian music in various universities and cultural divisions. I had the privilege to interact with some of the famous musicians of land wherever I went. For instance, it was George (Romania), who held the uncanny knack of playing the instruments to produce sounds in nature. South Africans are good at rhythms. I encountered hundreds of such experiences.
I left the echelons of high status as a cultural ambassador to pursue my dream in the world of music. I started my career again as a singer. It was with Mani Sharma for the film Jai Chiranjeeva, followed by Pokiri (by the same music director). Later, I worked with almost all the top music directors, including Koti, Raj, RP Patnaik, Iman, Vandemataram, Srikanth Deva. However, I never had the opportunity to work with MM Keeravani. I shall be grateful to Mr. Prasad Rao of Mount Opera, who created an opportunity for me in my second coming here.
How you felt working with VN Aditya?
It all happened with the speed of a wind. One fine evening, I was sipping a cup of tea with Aditya. He said that if I could make a tune worth his liking on the spot, he would surely make me the music director for his immediate project. Immediately, I composed a tune – Asha Chinni Asha. He instantly liked it and asked me to go ahead with even more tunes. However, I took it lightly and kept silent. After twenty days, I came to realize that Aditya was serious about his promise. All of a sudden, he asked me, one day, to come to his house, which I did. I was puzzled and went speechless as Aditya started introducing me to a big gathering as his music director for Rainbow. So far, he has not told me the story of the film, but all of my tunes for the film were approved. I keenly followed the suggestion of Aditya – to be myself in composing tunes and strictly not getting carried away by others.
Who were your gurus in Tollywood?
Certainly, they were RP Patnaik and Mani Sharma, who gave me the foothold in my second coming.
Our film industry is found to be plagued by the monopoly factor, particularly when we see only the big names continue to rule the roost. How confident are you in this monopolized and highly competitive industry?
Yes. There is monopoly. It is everywhere. My antidote for this is to believe in God and doing my work without bothering for the results. All great successes are marked by great struggles.
Did you ever feel of quitting the profession? Any sour backlash in your career to that extent?
To be frank, I faced two such moments. They were so powerful that the first one made me feel like quitting the profession once for all, while the other one almost turned into a reclusive, that I was forced into depression for a full of six months.
I sang a track for Shiva 2006 with music by maestro Ilayaraja. On hearing this, he immensely liked that, along with others, including singer Sunita, Ramgopal Varma, JD Chakravarthy and a good number of technicians. But, the happiness didn’t long last. Suddenly, my track was dropped and it was replaced by the one sung by a singer from Malayalam. I came to know that I was removed based on the sectarian reason of myself being a Telugu man. Or simply I felt that way. Anyways, it was disgusting.
Prior to that, I was selected to a make a video album for a big corporate group. It was in 2004. The party repeatedly informed me that they were interested to make it a global thing to happen. I shuttled myself between Hyderabad and New Delhi many a time. They gave me the date from which the shoot would commence. The day arrived at last, but there was no information from the other end. Later, I came to know that the company had dropped the project – just because I came from South India. It forced me to sit in isolation, dejected for about six months.
What will your share of contribution to Tollywood when you consolidate yourself as a music director to reckon with?
Certainly, I feel it is my foremost duty to introduce more and more number of native (Telugu playback singers).
Don’t you think you are following the same yardstick of your tormentors on regional and linguistic barriers?
Never. A big majority of the singers in our industry is from the North. I accept that there is a kind of special grace in their voice. At the same time, I prefer to give a big helping hand to our local singers. Huge amount of money and time is spent on the people from the North. If one-tenth of that is spent on the locals, the result would definitely be qualitative and natural. I already began the exercise. In Rainbow, three new singers, or call them our native singers, were given the job. We have great many talented singers like Karunya, Hemachandra and others. To be frank, did they get the right place here? I am doubly serious. If I only had sung a song like – Gala Gala Paruthunna Godarilaa (Pokiri) – in Bollywood, I would have reached the topnotch position there.
Who is the big inspiration behind your career?
It is my mother. She (KL Vasanthi) is a good singer since her childhood. For me, her voice is on a par with a Lata Mangeshkar and Susheela. Her extraordinarily mellifluous voice inspires me to infinite levels.
Which was the biggest compliment in your life?
One day I was there in Mumbai, recording a track of mine. Famed Asha Bhonsle happened to hear the same. When I came out finishing that track, she appreciated me and personally gave me a word that she would support me in Mumbai. She had even discouraged my idea of going to Mauritius as India’s cultural ambassador. But, I had already signed the agreement with the Central Government.

CyberLink PowerDirector 7 - Your Complete Production Studio for Editing and Publishing Home Movies !
Cyberlink Powerdirector 7 is a video editing and production suite aimed at the home video market. It’s very easy to use and supports capture, editing and export of high-definition video formats. All home video editing programs follow the convention of dividing the whole process into chronologically ordered tasks and providing the necessary tools for each - Powerdirector is no exception.
Four buttons ranged across the top of the screen provide everything you need to capture and edit video footage, produce video files for distribution and create video DVDs. Most of the action occurs in the edit module, which, like every other aspect of the Powerdirector workspace, is well-designed, allowing you to easily find your way around without needing to refer to the Help option. There’s a choice of storyboard or timeline layout, the latter providing a master video track, effects track, picture-in-picture overlay track, a titling track and voiceover and music audio tracks.
If the effort of arranging clips and applying transitions is all too much, Powerdirector’s Magic Movie Wizard will do it all for you, but don’t expect miracles. We were a little disappointed with the pedestrian array of templates on offer and the wizard’s inability to cut clips to the beat of the music backing produced stilted, disjointed results.
In addition to new effects, transitions and titles, the PiP (Picture in Picture) Object Room provides a library of overlay graphics including frames and clipart. These can be animated using keyframed motion paths so you can, for example, have suitcase and travel ticket graphics wend their way erratically across the screen, most likely overlaying footage of you waiting for your luggage to appear on the carousel at Ibiza airport, long after everyone else has left for their hotel.
Voiceover recording exemplifies the program’s straightforward approach. All you need to do is position the play head in the timeline where you want to begin your voiceover and press the record button, say your piece, then press stop. You can elect to set a time limit and add fade-in and fade-out, but that’s as complicated as it gets.
The Produce button opens a production wizard which provides file output options including write bask to DV or HDV tape and upload to Youtube and Mediamax sharing websites. Windows Media Video, Realvideo and Quicktime streaming formats are also supported.
Before pressing the Create Disc button you need to do some preparation, not only editing your footage, but adding chapter markers that are subsequently used to create the DVD menu structure. Once again, this is made easy in the Chapter Room, where you can have chapters created automatically at the start of each clip, or add them yourself manually. You can now also name chapters.
Powerdirector’s DVD authoring takes footage from the storyboard or timeline, automatically creating a chapter-based menu system. We’ve criticized previous versions of the program for lacking menu customization and Cyberlink has addressed this by introducing a Menu Designer which allows you, among other things, to change the background image, re-arrange the layout, add buttons and change their appearance.
The supplied style templates are a bit cheesy, but there’s a good range and each offers several layout options, so you can organise movies with lots of chapters onto menu pages with multiple buttons. You can’t redirect menu buttons, for example to go to sub menus, or to return to the top menu after playing a scene, so this isn’t the application to use for kiosk-style DVD presentations.
